Information only
BoatMend provides general maintenance information, step-by-step guides, links to manufacturers' official manuals and answers generated by an AI assistant (the "AI Mechanic"). All of it is for informational purposes only.
BoatMend does not replace a certified marine technician, your engine's official service documentation or your own judgment. Boats, engines and equipment differ by make, model, year and installation. Always follow your manufacturer's owner's manual and service specifications.
You are responsible for your safety
Working on boats involves real risks, including fire, explosion, electric shock, carbon monoxide poisoning, chemical exposure, injury from moving parts, sinking and drowning. You decide whether a job is within your skills, and you are responsible for your safety, the safety of others and the condition of your boat.
Wear proper protective equipment, work in a well-ventilated area, disconnect the battery and remove the kill-switch lanyard or key before working on an engine, keep a marine-rated fire extinguisher at hand, and never run an engine out of the water without a proper water supply.
Stop and call a professional
Stop immediately and call a qualified marine technician if you notice a fuel leak or fuel smell, a propane or gas smell, a carbon monoxide alarm, smoke, sparks or a burning smell, signs of high-current electrical faults, or water coming into the boat.
In an emergency on the water, put on life jackets and call the U.S. Coast Guard on VHF channel 16 or dial 911. For towing assistance, contact Sea Tow or TowBoatUS.
About the AI Mechanic
The AI Mechanic generates answers automatically. It may be incomplete or wrong. It tries to cite its sources and to say when an answer comes only from general knowledge, but you must verify any specification, torque value, capacity, part number or procedure against your official manual before acting on it.
